Metro Expo Line Opens for Business: Downtown to Culver City in 30 Minutes Flat
by Joanne Lindsay on April 27, 2012As I sat in traffic on my way to the office today, I was suddenly struck by the precarious nature of it all. On a normal weekday rush hour in Los Angeles, the entire city seems to simultaneously begin a daily pilgrimage to work, only to return all at once at the end of the day.
The Vanity and Insanity of Living in Los Angeles: Why We Wear Our Sunglasses at Night
by Kim Schramm on April 10, 2012The other day I had a conversation with a dynamic fellow agent about the reality shows based in L.A.
It is amazing that we have the housewives, the agents, the dancers, the storage kings, the couples rehab, and now every Tom, Joe and Harold are becoming hit stars. Only in lala land where everyone holds steadfast to their dreams!
A Theater Near You: Exploring The LA Theater Scene
by Joanne Lindsay on March 27, 2012In a town that prides itself on being the entertainment capital of the world, one of the most enduring forms of entertainment in human history still flies under the radar in the City of Angels: the theater.
It may not have the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood blockbuster or the salaciousness of watching the Kardashians go shopping on TV, but there is something inherently enveloping about seeing a play in person. There is no big screen flattening the action and there are no special glasses needed to catapult you into their world. Plus there is the added excitement of knowing that anything can, and often does, happen in a live theater setting. An actor can flub his lines, a set piece could fall over, dancers could collide into each other. There are no do-overs, no reshoots, no second chances. In the theater, just as in life, the show must always go on.
Skrillex: A Lesson In Reinvention
by Don Heller on March 14, 2012If you haven’t heard the name Skrillex, then chances are you need to talk to your kids more. I confess that when I first heard the name, I thought it sounded like an unpleasant medical condition, like shingles or cirrhosis.
The Controversy of Street Art in Los Angeles: Where Have All the Murals Gone?
by Dan Hicks on February 17, 2012I can’t be the only one that wonders ‘what happened to the art?’ Specifically, I saw this really cool mural on La Brea, people were taking photos and everything. This mural was quite big, not your 3 minute spray paint job! Then, about a week later, I was driving by and the mural is gone! The wall is painted black.
Celebrating the New Year with Healthy Choices for my Family
by Kim Schramm on February 2, 2012I realized this past weekend that it’s time to make healthy choices for my family and not just short term changes.
I cleared out the cookie and candy pantry and replaced it with dried fruit, and seaweed snacks. I know that at first, this wouldn’t sound so appetizing, but actually it has gone over well.
5 Ways To Improve Your Real Estate Business in 2012
by Don Heller on January 20, 2012Watching the ball drop this year in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, I was initially struck by the oddity of it all. Since 1907, hundreds of thousands of people have traveled from all over the world to be squashed together on a freezing December night in New York for the sole purpose of simultaneously counting backwards in an increasing frenzy, only to erupt in celebration upon completion of their task.
Using a Mind Map to Find Success: Organize and Attain Your Desires, Motivations and Goals
by Kim Schramm on January 4, 2012Now that we are in the first week of the new year, many of us have made resolutions and recommitted to the important things in our lives. The issue is in staying motivated and not letting our resolve diminish as the year progresses. A mind map is a great way to organize your life and set yourself up for success.
